About the instructor: Olga is a highly experienced and qualified Russian language instructor with over a decade of experience teaching and tutoring students in the San Francisco Bay Area and online. She holds both an MA and a PhD in languages and and literature from the prestigious University of California, Berkeley, where she also taught for six years. Throughout her academic career, Olga has held various academic positions at American universities. She is passionate about teaching and has a deep understanding of the challenges that students face when learning a new language. Olga’s teaching approach emphasizes a strong foundation in the fundamentals of Russian grammar and vocabulary, as well as practical communication skills that enable students to confidently navigate real-life situations in Russian-speaking countries. About the class: Russian Beginner 1 is the course for those who want to learn the Russian language from scratch. This course is designed for complete beginners or students who have had limited exposure to Russian in the past. You will be introduced to the basics of the Russian language, as well as provide insights into Russian culture, history, and traditions.
Throughout the course, students will learn how to read and write the Cyrillic alphabet, which is essential for understanding and communicating in Russian. Students will be introduced to topics such as introducing oneself, describing one's hobbies and interests, and expressing likes and dislikes. By the end of the course, students will will be able to carry on simple conversations in Russian with confidence.
